The Nissan Leaf Reimagined: Sleek Electric SUV Set to Launch in 2025
Set to debut in 2025, the Nissan Leaf is gearing up to establish new benchmarks in the electric SUV arena, blending its time-tested electric technology with an innovative, modern design. This upcoming third-generation model of the trailblazing electric vehicle (EV) is expected to unveil at the end of 2024, showcasing a transformation into a sleek, elevated SUV. Shifting the Leaf’s persona from its modest origins to a more refined and contemporary aesthetic.
The latest iteration of the Leaf will be a new era in design heavily influenced by Nissan’s Ariya and the Chill-Out Concept. It will sport a lower, more aerodynamic profile compared to its other Nissan SUV like the Qashqai and Juke, and will be manufactured in the same UK facility that produces these models. The objective is unmistakable: to adopt a more sophisticated and appealing design philosophy.
Nissan’s design team is committed to moving past the earlier shape that marked the first and second-generation Leaf models. This goal is facilitated by the new Leaf’s transition to the CMF-EV platform, shared with the Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech. Departing from a traditional combustion engine car platform allows for a more seamless design, free from the limitations of conventional car architecture. The Chill-Out Concept, celebrated for its sleek body panels and streamlined design lines, heavily influences the new Leaf’s styling. The concept’s front, featuring prominent LED lights and an illuminated badge, heralds a shift towards a more refined and futuristic look. This fresh design approach is set to transform the Leaf from merely a functional vehicle to an aesthetically striking one.
Advancements will come in Driving Range as the 2026 Leaf is expected to be powered by advanced batteries from Envision. These batteries, with a 30% increase in energy density, will be produced in a new facility near Nissan’s Sunderland plant. Nissan anticipates a substantial increase in driving range, aligning with its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.
The unveiling of the new Leaf is scheduled by Nissan for the end of 2025, with its market launch in 2025, likely as a 2026 model. Currently, the launch and market availability is not confirmed yet for the Nissan New Zealand market so stay tuned to hear more on plans to introduce this upcoming model to the local market.
