Russell Thrilled with ‘Weekend of Dreams’ After Securing First Mercedes Pole and Win in Four Months

George Russell expressed his excitement and satisfaction after turning his pole position into a commanding victory at Saturday night’s Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Russell had a strong start, maintaining his lead into Turn 1 and successfully defending against an early challenge from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. From there, he controlled the 50-lap race with confidence.

Teammate Lewis Hamilton staged an impressive recovery drive from 10th on the grid, keeping Russell under pressure in the final stages. However, Russell crossed the finish line with a comfortable gap to secure the win.

This marked Russell’s first pole and Mercedes’ first since the British Grand Prix. Additionally, it was Mercedes’ first race win since the Belgian Grand Prix, both taking place in July, four months earlier.

Reflecting on his triumph and plans for the celebration, Russell shared: “I was planning to fly in a couple of hours but I’m definitely not getting on that flight! I’m going to enjoy this evening with all my team.

“It’s been a dream of a weekend. I don’t know how we’ve been so quick but I’m just riding this wave right now. To get the victory here, pole position, a dominant weekend, one-two with Lewis as well… We couldn’t have chosen a better place to make this happen.”
